Shine Union List - Electronic Journal Articles
A Shine member recently asked whether the Shine union list would be starting to include electronic journal articles as well as print.
This is a reply from Jim MacNeilage, Business Development Manager at the Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) :-
"Access to digital copies can only be permitted to NHSiS staff etc - 'outsiders' would not be permitted to receive such a copy - so you would need to run a two tier system.
The licence would not permit you to archive material - albeit you could post copies to an intranet for up to 30 days.
If you are talking about hosting a database of who holds the material and can provide a digital copy where a NHSiS member can then ask for a copy - that would be OK, but there must not be access to a systematically indexed archive where users can pull down a copy, in this regard it would be a push rather than pull service."
At present, there are probably not enough electronic journal subscriptions between NHS Shine members (outwith the elibrary) to make this worthwhile.
