CILIP in London presents Biddy Fisher on Defining our Professional Future

CILIP in London Branch will be holding an event at CILIP HQ at 6.00pm on Wednesday 8th December 2010.

Refreshments will be available from 5.30pm.

Proceedings will conclude at 7.45pm to allow for vacation of the building by 8.00pm

Speaker will be Biddy Fisher on the topic of Defining our Professional Future: the story so far.

Biddy Fisher is current CILIP President and will be sharing her experience of leading the first part of CILIP's 'Defining our Professional Future'.

The successor to AACR2, Resource Description and Access (RDA) will soon be with us. It is aimed to bring data capture, data description and control into the 21st century, offering a tool for a far wider audience than the traditional cataloguing community. That said the basic amendments to the MARC 21 format have already been agreed. What impact will these new rules have on the content of the MARC 21 bibliographic record? This half day programme will explore the changes to the format.

Partnerships for HE in FE: the library perspective

A one day conference to focus on the issues around supporting and delivering library and information literacy provision for students studying Higher Education level programmes delivered in the Further Education environment. The conference will cover many aspects of supporting HE in FE students, and in developing the HE/FE partnerships to best advantage. Anyone is welcome to attend, but this will be of particular interest to those involved in supporting this provision from within both HE or FE across the UK.

This event offers an excellent opportunity for those involved to share good practice, discuss common issues, and create networks of support.

Diagnostic test studies are receiving increasing attention, but are challenging to identify efficiently and reliably. As well as health care professionals seeking information on best evidence on test accuracy, there is also a growing requirement for systematic study identification to inform systematic reviews and technology assessments of diagnostic tests and techniques. The growing number of diagnostic test accuracy reviews is an important resource for the practice of evidence-based health care.

This study day will provide an introduction to the key features of diagnostic test accuracy studies to provide insight into retrieval challenges.
