SHINE prizes
Now I'm back from my post-AGM week off I thought my most pleasurable first task as the new Chair would be to congratulate the two winners of SHINE cash, announced at the AGM. This year's Hazel Williamson Bursary (up to £500 for any development activity) was awarded to Donna Watson of the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy. Donna is going to do a self-study Open University course, 'The evolving information professional: challenges in a digital world'. The course is for "those in the profession who wish to stay relevant in this fast-changing world of information, find out how other information services are facing the challenge and consider ways of proving their worth in the Google age." If this interests you too there is more information on the OU course information page.
The new SHINE Conference Prize (up to £500 specifically for conference attendance, drawn out of a hat at the AGM) was won by Kathleen Irvine of the Highland Health Sciences Library, Inverness. Kathleen will use the prize to attend the Evidence Based Library and Information Practice (EBLIP6) Conference in Salford, in June this year. Congratulations to both winners, and a reminder that nominations for the 2012 awards will be open from around January. Both prizes are open to everyone in SHINE (except committee members - sorry).
