How new copyright information will affect users of the Shine union list
Implications of the withdrawal of the CLA NHS Scotland copyright licence
Librarians have been notified that the CLA NHS Scotland copyright licence will be withdrawn as from 31st March. After 31st March 2011 all copying performed by NHS staff in Scotland will be permitted under the conditions of 'Fair Dealing/Library Privilege', as stated in the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act, 1988.
What are the implications of this for the union list? Full information about 'Fair Dealing' can be found online at http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/48/contents
To summarise:
1. Copying must be for specified purposes (private study/non-commercial).
2. Copying of one article from one issue of a journal (or one chapter of a book) is permitted.
3. Users should complete and sign a copyright declaration form for each item obtained.
4. All Shine union list users will require to pay for requests (with Shine numbers).
The union list working group will provide further details shortly. In the meantime, do not hesitate to contact the working group with any queries http://www.shinelib.org.uk/our_work/union_list_database or email unionlist@shinelib.org.uk
