Thinking of volunteering for the committee or groups?
If you've thought about volunteering for the SHINE committee or groups but aren't quite sure then read on, the e-SHINE working group members have posted their thoughts on the benefits of volunteering for SHINE.
"Over the years I've volunteered with SHINE in various roles (committee member, secretary, e-SHINE group) and have received many benefits in return. Through my work with SHINE I've had a chance to work on my meeting skills (organising, documenting and chairing) and been able to meet and work with colleagues from across Scotland. Being involved with SHINE has given me the opportunity to try new things that aren't part of my role at work, assisting in the design and implementation of the new website has been a highlight. I also used my experience with SHINE as evidence for my Chartership (another good reason to volunteer!)."
Tracey McKee (Specialist Librarian, Maria Henderson Library, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde)
"As a new professional being part of the e-SHINE group has had several benefits (in terms of Professional Development) for me. I have worked with colleagues that I otherwise wouldn't have, the groupwork involved has brought me into contact with others in the health sector and helped me understand issues within the group and wider profession. Most of the communication within the group is via email, working on projects using only this medium was new for me and it has helped me develop my skills in this area. e-Shine has also helped me develop IT skills (especially updating the website using the CMS) which has also proved useful in my own day-to-day work."
James Wilson (Assistant Librarian, Health Management Library, Scottish Health Service Centre)
